Request for Decision Summary
In keeping with Policy CP-1006-18, Cultural Performances for Council, this performance will recognize poet Tor Carter.
Proposed Motion
That poet Tor Carter be welcomed and thanked by Council for his poetry reading.
The Cultural Performances for Council Policy was developed to acknowledge and recognize individuals or groups in the performing arts with performances before Council. Performers include, but are not limited to music, live art, dance and poetry.

April is National Poetry Month and was launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996 to remind the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, and, of course, poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives.

Tor Carter is 9 years old and a grade-four student at Millgrove School in Spruce Grove. In addition to writing and performing poetry, Tor enjoys doing tricks on his scooter, snowboarding at Rabbit Hill, and riding his best horse-friend Habicock at Putting Horse Ranch. Tor began reciting his own poetry before he knew how to write so his mom would write down the words as he spoke; now he writes on his own as one of the youngest members of the Parkland Poets with his first published poem appearing in their 2020 anthology. He has also performed at the Stroll of Poets open mic in Edmonton.  This evening, Tor will share 4 of his short poems that are about his favourite things to do and a very special person in his life.
