Citizens feel safe within their communities.

Request for Decision Summary
The purpose of this report is to provide Council with detailed information and recommendations on Automated Traffic Enforcement in the community.

Proposed Motion
That the report on Automated Traffic Enforcement be received as information.
Spruce Grove City Council, as a follow-up to the 2017 election campaign, requested an opportunity to review the Automated Traffic Enforcement program in the City with the ultimate goal of making a determination on its future.
The City of Spruce Grove utilizes Automated Traffic Enforcement to achieve its overarching goal related to traffic safety and reducing collisions and severity therein.  Several successes and improvements have been made over the years but there remains opportunities to do more.
Recent changes to the provincial Guideline will help accomplish the desired goal of increased education and transparency should City Council choose to maintain Automated Traffic Enforcement as recommended.
The report provides an opportunity to detail a number of common misconceptions and clarify how they are addressed in the application of the City’s program.  It is also intended to provide detailed information, statistics, clarification, and recommendations related to maintaining the goal of traffic safety and utilizing Automated Traffic Enforcement, with enhancements, as a key component helping the City achieve continued success.
