Request for Decision Summary
In keeping with Policy 6,014 Outstanding Achievement, this presentation will recognize the efforts of  the U16A Spruce Grove Ringette Team, the Wrath, for outstanding achievement at a provincial and national level at the Ringette Alberta Provincials held March 2-5, 2017, and Western Canadian Nationals  recently held in Winnipeg, Manitoba the weekend of  March 22 - 25, 2017.

Proposed Motion
That the U16A Western Canadian Champions, Team Alberta (also known as Spruce Grove Wrath), be recognized by Council by presenting them with Certificates of Outstanding Achievement for their Gold medal win at the Ringette Alberta Provincials held in Medicine Hat, Alberta on March 2 – 5, 2017, and their Gold medal win at the Western Canadian Ringette finals held in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 22 – 25, 2017.
Background/Analysis
The Outstanding Achievement Recognition Policy was developed to bring municipal recognition to Spruce Grove individuals, teams, groups and organizations who have accomplished outstanding achievements in the fields of athletics, fine arts, academics and cultural activities at a provincial, national, or international level.

On the weekend of March 2 – 5, 2017, Spruce Grove’s U16A Ringette team, the Wrath, traveled to Medicine Hat, Alberta to compete in the U16A Ringette Provincial finals.  Leading up to provincials, the team had to first get past the regional playdowns, which they did handily, going through all the round robin play undefeated. It was then on to provincials, where the team dominated, again going undefeated.  The last game was against Cochrane, winning with a score of 7-0.

After capturing gold at provincials, Team Wrath was named Team Alberta, and off to Winnipeg to represent Alberta at the Western Canadian Championship.

The team once again went undefeated through round robin play and won the gold medal game against Team Saskatchewan, with a score of 6-4.  Getting to Westerns is one of the highest honours of the sport in Canada, and the team is to be congratulated, not only on this achievement, but also the fact that they went without a loss at regional playdowns, provincials and westerns.  It should be noted, that two of the players were chosen All Stars in their division - Offense - Sydney George, and Goalie - Jaimie Tuininga.

Congratulations are extended to the team for their dedication and hard work which has resulted in a very successful season.
