Recommendation

That the Spruce Grove Saints U16 Girls soccer team be recognized by Council by presenting them with Certificates of Outstanding Achievement for their Silver Medal win at the Alberta Soccer Association Provincial Tier IV Championships held at West District Park in Spruce Grove on July 19, 2009.

Purpose

The Outstanding Achievement Recognition Policy was developed to bring municipal recognition to Spruce Grove individuals, teams, groups and organizations who have accomplished outstanding achievements in the fields of athletics, fine arts, academics and cultural activities.

Background

On the weekend of July 17-19, the U16 Saints took part in the Alberta Soccer Association's Provincial Tier IV Championships held at Spruce Grove's West District Park. The team played four games, wining two and tying two, in the five-team tournament, giving them the Silver Medal win. The team was also honoured with the Fair Play trophy at the end of the three-day round-robin tournament. The Saints U16 Girls soccer team are to be congratulated for their hard work which led to a very successful season.
