Regular Council Meeting
Fire Services 2008 Annual Report - Araujo
Information
Recommendation
That City Council accept the Fire Services 2008 Annual Report as information.
Purpose
The purpose of this presentation is to meet the reporting requirements of the City of Spruce Grove "Fire Services: Emergency Response Services Standards" Policy and to inform City Council of emergency response data for the 2008 fiscal year.
Background
In 2008, Spruce Grove Fire Services (SGFS) responded to 89.1% of EMS emergencies in less than 300 seconds. Fires with dollar loss received aid in less than 300 seconds 66.7% of the time while all emergency fire type responses met the 300 second standard 79.2% of the time.
Mutual aid responses consisted of 38 responses which is considerably lower than the 71 incidents requesting mutual aid in 2007. Of the 38 responses that had mutual aid, only in one case was the aid provided to the City of Spruce Grove. Of the 37 mutual aid responses by SGFS to other jurisdictions, 30 of these requests were ambulance related calls while 7 were fire related.
Dollar losses due to fire were down in 2008, at $662,300. The total value of structures that had a fire in 2008 is over 22 million. The fire service saved over 21 million in property value in 2008.
Overall, call volume in 2008 was up by 4% over 2007 which is the smallest call volume increase in five years. The growth of the city is the single largest contributor to increased call volumes. Since 2004 call volumes have increased 60% and response times have steadily improved. Co-current calls saw a slight decrease in 2008 with 221 co-current calls compared to 227 in 2007.
