Title:    Enhanced Community Policing Budget - Wolanski
Department: Community & Protective Services
Strategic Vision Element: Where People Choose to Live - A dynamic city with an exceptional quality of life Related Goal: Citizens feel safe within their communities.

Request for Decision Summary
A notice of motion was brought forward by Councillor Oldham at the Regular Council meeting on June 10, 2019 that $25,000 be allocated from Council contingency to increase the existing enhanced community policing budget.

Proposed Motion
That $25,000 be allocated from Council contingency to increase the existing enhanced community policing budget.
The City of Spruce Grove has an "enhanced policing" budget of $25,000.  This budget is used for things such as events support and other proactive initiatives such as targeted policing, check stops, and summer bike patrols.

In the past a large portion of the enhanced policing budget was not being used; however, there is a willingness and commitment from local detachment staff to utilize this budget.  All work that comes out of this budget is specific to Spruce Grove, rather than the integrated detachment as a whole.
As this is the second year of funds being allocated from Council contingency, there should be consideration by Council to increase the status quo budget to secure funding for enhanced community policing rather than using a contingency account.

Fiscal Impact
Financial Implications:
Council Contingency total budget - $75,000
Expenditures to date/committed:
Council Social - $6,891.01
Expenditures for consideration:
Enhanced Community Policing - $25,000
Funds remaining in Council Contingency if approved - $43,108.99
