That the "New Beginnings - An Indigenous Engagement Improvement Strategy" Phase Two Final Report be received as information.
Spruce Grove FCSS engaged the consulting services of In Sync Consulting Inc., to assist in furthering the work accomplished in Phase One of this project. The project was initiated in 2016 to develop a culturally appropriate tri-regional response to the increasing number of Indigenous families and individuals seeking services within the City of Spruce Grove.
Enoch Cree Nation, Paul First Nation, Alexander First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Tri-Area Metis Local, Government of Alberta Indigenous Relations, Native Counselling Services, "Connecting with our Aboriginal Neighours" Tri-Rotary Committee, Town of Stony Plain, Parkland County, local and regional service providers, and residents.
"New Beginnings" has collectively developed a number of actionable initiatives that if implemented would improve engagement with Indigenous community members living within Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County.
Ownership and implementation of these initiatives by the community as a whole will support inclusion by engaging community members as active agents of change in the delivery of programs and services that are accessible and culturally appropriate. The initiative supports the Social Sustainability and Cultural Master Plans as well as the Modernized Municipal Government Act, taking into account recommendations gleaned from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action.
