Information
Request for Decision Summary
In keeping with Policy 6,014 Outstanding Achievement, this presentation will recognize the efforts of the Spruce Grove Ringette – U14AA Storm team for outstanding achievement at a national level at the Western Canadian Ringette Championships held in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Proposed Motion

That the Spruce Grove Ringette U14AA Storm team be recognized by Council by presenting them with Certificates of Outstanding Achievement for their Bronze medal win at the Western Canadian Ringette Championships held in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 25, 2017.

Background/Analysis
The Outstanding Achievement Recognition Policy was developed to bring municipal recognition to Spruce Grove individuals, teams, groups and organizations who have accomplished outstanding achievements in the fields of athletics, fine arts, academics and cultural activities at a provincial, national, or international level.

This is the first year that the Spruce Grove Ringette Association has competed at the U14 “AA” level provincially, which was prompted by the growing number of athletes registering in the sport.  This stream of competition is the highest tier of play that an athlete can participate in this age group.  Through perseverance and dedication the girls had a very competitive season.  The team qualified for provincials, but unfortunately lost in overtime in the bronze medal game.  But this didn’t end their season as they were able to secure a wildcard sport for the Western Canadian Ringette Championships.  They had a great weekend in Winnipeg, and managed to finish as the third best team in all of Western Canada.

These young athletes are to be congratulated for their dedication and hard work which resulted in a national bronze medal in their inaugural season at the “AA” level.
