Request for Decision Summary
April is National Poetry Month in Canada and Poem in Your Pocket Day taking place this Thursday, April 27. The day encourages people to select a poem, carry it with them, and share it with others throughout the day. To celebrate, Cultural Services has invited Grade 4 student Eloery St. Pierre to recite a piece for Council.
Proposed Motion
That Council thank Eloery St. Pierre for reading as part of National Poetry Month.

Background/Analysis
Poetry Month began in 1996 and was started by the Academy of American Poets.  It now has the support of many other organizations including the government, art societies, poets and educational leaders.  Several countries honor this month-long celebration, including the US, Canada and Great Britain.  Poetry month has a variety of aims including raising awareness of poetry in the media and schools, encouraging people to read and highlighting the achievements of poets.

April also celebrates Poem in Your Pocket Day taking place this Thursday, April 27. The day encourages people to select a poem, carry it with them, and share it with others throughout the day.
